Slim-pickens this week on the waiver wire. We’re more looking at deeper fliers here who COULD bolster your squad one thing or two goes their way, and if you have a player or two who could be considered dead weight at this point for the roster space. Having said that, here are a few players who might help you moving forward.
Daryl Richardson (RB – StL) - Daryl Richardson came on and did nothing but impress, after Steven Jackson was removed from the game against Washington last weekend. This is where it gets dicey. The Rams reported shortly after the game that Jackson had injured his groin, and that was the reason for his removal. Despite this, many still believe that Jackson was benched because he was removed immediately after spiking the ball and earning a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty (he seemingly thought he had scored, however). What ever the case may be, Richardson made a serious case for playing time.
Additionally, Jackson has been one of the most overworked backs in the league over the past several seasons up there with Michael Turner and MJD, which boosts Richardson’s potential for playing time even more. When you combine the possible benching/injury and Steven Jackson’s overworked legs, Daryl Richardson is a necessary handcuff for SJax owners, and could represent a very nice sleeper pickup if Jackson ends up missing time (which is looking highly possible at this point).
Andre Brown (RB – NYG) – This little change up is leaving David Wilson owners, such as myself, a little frustrated. As the only runningback drafted in the first round who didn’t get a starting job off the bat, many pegged David Wilson as a guy to breakout this year, especially with Ahmad Bradshaw’s turbulent injury record. Surprise, surprise, it’s week 3, and Ahmad Bradshaw is injured already. Yet, instead of passing the torch to Wilson, Coughlin has given virtually all the work to Andre Brown, who has seized the opportunity. He got 71 yards and the game winning TD against Tampa last week, and has definitely supplanted Wilson, at least for now, as the handcuff here.
Mikel LeShoure (RB – Det) - PICK THIS GUY UP NOW. Kevin Smith is on the way out, and LeShoure looked awesome in preseason before his mandated suspension. He has better hands than any of their other options here, which will mesh nicely with the pass-first offense up in Detroit. The suspension is now over, hopefully LeShoure has stopped smoking pot, and all signs point to him putting up big numbers. The fact he is still owned in under 30% of leagues is amazing to me.
Brandon LaFell (WR – Car) - 10+ fantasy points in back to back weeks, as the #2 option in the Carolina scheme. Steve Smith’s speed and deep potential open up defenses incredibly well for this guy, and he occasionally gets a few bonus rushing yards as a nice side dish. It looks like this guy is living up to his potential, and with Steve Smith fighting nagging injuries, could be in line for even more work going forward. Still available in over 75% of leagues.
