2012 Tight End

1UP Fantasy Player Rankings: TE

  1. Rob Gronkowski (NE) – 1,327 Yards and 17 TD’s make this a no-brainer. Could a tight end be taken in the first round? With numbers like this it’s hard to pass up. You have to think that this would be tough to repeat though, especially with the new additions at WR in New England.
  2. Jimmy Graham (NO) – Should be fine despite the circus in New Orleans. Arguably has more raw talent than Gronk, and could very well put up superior numbers this season. Keep in mind, he matched him on virtually every stat except TD’s last year.
  3. Antonio Gates (SD) – Despite playing in only 13 games, still managed to haul in 778 yards and 7 TD’s. The departure of the Chargers other big aerial red zone threat, Vincent Jackson, combined with a healthy start, should only help Gates in 2012.
  4. Vernon Davis (SF) – Many are shying away from him due to the shaky nature of Alex Smith, and the new competition for balls in SF. Similarly, had a fairly dissapointing 2011 with 792 yards and 6 TD’s.
  5. Jermichael Finley (GB) – Remains a consistent red-zone threat in the pass first Green Bay offense. Has reportedly been working on his chemistry with Aaron Rodgers, which can only help. Hopefully he’ll cut down on the drops and break into that “elite” status.
  6. Jason Witten (Dal) – Normally consistent, and still managed close to 1000 yards and 5 TD’s on what was considered a “down year” in 2011.
  7. Aaron Hernandez (NE) – Despite putting up inferior numbers to his teammate, Gronk, owners should still feel comfortable drafting Hernandez as a solid #1 fantasy TE.
  8. Jacob Tamme (Den) – A potential huge sleeper here. Fell off the radar playing under a healthy Dallas Clark in 2011, but played in 10 games with Peyton Manning in 2010 when Clark was injured, and was a beast catching 67 balls for 631 yards and 4 TD’s. Now that they’re reunited in Denver, expect some big numbers now that this connection has a whole season.
  9. Jermaine Gresham (Cin) – Now that Dalton has had a full camp, we should see big things from Gresham this year, who seems to have turned the corner.
  10. Brenk Celek (Phi) – If he manages to recover in time for a healthy start, could post numbers significantly higher than his draft position would indicate.
